Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why are we being asked to give toward new and replacement medical equipment? Don't taxes and the government pay for medical equipment?
A: The government DOES NOT pay for new medical equipment. It has always been the responsibility of the community to pay for equipment. The Foundations fundraise for the equipment our doctors, nurses and technologists; this is why we seek your support - to help ensure quality health care remains in our community.

Q: Why are we fundraising for equipment when we really need physicians and medical staff?
A: Having state-of-the-art medical equipment in our hospital will improve recruitment results and help keep us competitive in retaining physicians.  Recruiting and retraining top health professionals at all levels is becoming an increasing challenge for all hospitals, especially in rural settings. Recruitment and retention is about offering a quality work setting and up-to-date equipment to deliver the best possible patient care. Having the best tools and newest technology allows professionals to do their very best for patience and practice their considerable skills.

Q: How much am I expected to donate?
A: We invite everybody to consider the health care needs of the community and give as generously as you can.

Q: Why should I make a donation?
As a donor to our Foundations you can make a measurable impact in the lives of others in our region. Your gift will help purchase new medical equipment and technology for our Hospitals; it will help reduce wait times, enable less invasive treatments, allow for faster recoveries and could even save a life!

Q: Will my gift qualify as a charitable donation for income tax?
A: Yes, each Foundation is a registered charity and issues receipts for all donations. We accept cash, cheques and credit card donations and give receipts for all gifts. You can even donate online.

Q: How are donations recognized?
A: All contributions will be recognized through the Foundation's Donor Recognition Program. Dedication and naming opportunities are available by contacting your Foundation office.

Q: Can I direct my gift to support a specific program or area of interest?
A: Absolutely. We understand that you may have had a personal experience or reason to support a particular area within the Hospital. If you wish to designate your gift please contact your Foundation office.  We can ensure your gift can be put to work where a need exists. All undesignated gifts go to the area of greatest need.

Q: Who do I contact if I want to run an event on behalf of On Air For Health Care?
A: Please contact Briar Boyce at the PECMH Foundation, 613-476-1008 ext. 4425 or e-mail bboyce@qhc.on.ca

Q: How do I know my donation isn't being spent on operating funds for the hospital?
A: The Foundations are registered charitable organizations and are governed by the rules and regulations of the Canada Revenue Agency. We are audited annually and must provide proof of where the funds are used. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care provides funds to operate the hospital.

Q: How can I be assured my personal information will not be traded or sold to another group/agency?
A: Our donor information is confidential and not traded or sold to anyone. Donor information is used for Foundation fundraising purposes only. If at anytime you wish to be removed from our list, please call 613-476-1008 ext. 4503. For more information, please feel free to contact the Foundation office.
